Good morning! This will be a quick one.
I was supposed to be launching my new newsletter at the end of May, Making Comic X, where I’m going to create a new comic from conception to completion. But in typical DVP fashion, I’m caught up in the details of sorting out the branding/design elements for this relaunch so it’s taking a little longer than expected. That being said, it should be out in the next few weeks.
If you want more info on what I have planned for MCX than check out my previous newsletter #7.
All The Work Things.
I wrote a sizeable update on all my current books in my previous newsletter in April so the only notable thing to add here is the announcement that I’m writing a new Stardust, the Super Wizard story with art by the singular Jeffrey Alan Love as part of a Hardcover Anthology launching from Zoop.gg very soon. I consider this my first superhero story and so I’m having a lot of fun digging into the history of this character and his creator and exploring the intersection where they meet - stay tuned!
Here’s the blurb on Zoop’s site.
“A beautiful hardcover anthology reviving Stardust The Super Wizard, the weirdest Golden Age character!
The project is spearheaded by writer and Stardust enthusiast Van Jensen, who has enlisted an all-star roster of creators to contribute stories, including Mike Allred, who supplies the cover artwork and an interior story, Francesco Francavilla, Pete Woods, Ron Marz, Zander Cannon, Cecil Castellucci, Jay Baruchel, Jesse Lonergan, Jeff Parker, Tom Fowler and dozens of others!
The book also includes the debut short story from Ian Hanks, the grandson of Stardust creator, Fletcher Hanks.”
Writing Journal - Entry #5 - Bye, bye Twitter - Hello Substack!
I mentioned in my previous newsletter that I was leaving Twitter and that’s a done deal now. Honestly, I feel better already. This newsletter is a much smaller audience (maybe 10% of the followers I had on Twitter) but the numbers don’t matter to me so much as the quality of content and engagement, where I’ll be refocusing my time on creating something in place of throwing words into the abyss of discourse.
Alright, that’s it! See later this month for the launch of Making Comic X!
