Welcome to the blunder-dome - my third newsletter!
It’s Christmas and things are crazy so you really don’t have time to read this. For that reason, I’m going to keep this one short and sweet like the tail end of a half-sucked candy cane that lives somewhere between your endless desire for more sugar and the trash bin it truly belongs in.
December Musings.
I’ve been noticeably void of inspiration lately, which is understandably 2020.
I’m aiming to fill this section of my monthly newsletter with deep thoughts that somehow end up inspiring me or you or no one at all, which is fine too.
As I said, I don’t have a lot to give right now but I recently heard from an old friend who was looking for some advice on writing and illustrating her own graphic novel for children. So I’m going to do the laziest thing possible and just post a screen grab of my response below.
This was pretty specific to her needs and the conversation that we’d been having but perhaps something can be extracted from this brief response.
I’ll follow up more in the new year with an example of how I like to get ideas off the ground regardless of what medium I’m writing for.
In the meantime maybe this helps someone, somewhere…

Tales of Exandria - The Bright Queen!
My mini series with Critical Role and Dark Horse comics was finally announced, and I’m so happy I can finally talk about it! Critical Role has a massive following and the news was met with great enthusiasm from a very large group of people. Below is the cover for the first issue with cover art from incredibly talented Helen Mask.
Here’s a link to the announcement posted on Graphic Policy the other day. Click it to learn more about this exciting new series!
DARK HORSE REVEALS CRITICAL ROLE: THE TALES OF EXANDRIA
You can preorder the four issue mini series from you local comic shop now.
The first issue is on shelves March 17th 2021!
For Pleasure or Pain.
I’ve been rereading DK2, the follow up to Dark Knight Returns by Frank Miller and it’s both better and worse than I remember it. I’m going to have to skip back to the original ground breaking mini series to figure what’s making me feel this way.
If nothing else it has The Question and The Green Arrow in it and I love both of these characters. Particularly The Question who I feel destined to scribe at some point.
Natasha and I have been watching Defending Jacob, a series from Apple, and I’m enjoying it. I’m a sucker for dramatic mysteries and I’m probably annoying Natasha to no end by telling her my theories after each episode.
I also like how simple the series is in terms of execution, it’s just plain old good. They aren’t trying to stretch out in new territory, they’re just putting one foot in front of the other and making a solid show, and this happens to be exactly what I need right now.
Personally Speaking.
I’m deleting Facebook at the end of the month and any last minute doubts were squashed by the absolute certainty of this fortune cookie.
The Little Bird Facebook Page will remain vibrant and active under the care of my wife and I’ll be posting all kinds of cool news, art and giveaways there - so if you haven’t “liked” it, please do!
Here’s a picture of an Eastern Grey Squirrel across the street from where I live. You may wonder why I’m posting a picture of a squirrel. There’s a reason for it but I’m not going to tell you yet! Stay tuned!
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays everyone! Stay safe and I’ll see you in 2021.
